I started out working part-time at Homebase to earn some extra money while I was at college. The hours were flexible, so I could fit it around my course. After a while I started to realise there were a lot of long-term career opportunities with the company though, and that’s what persuaded me to stay.
"I’ve had some hugely supportive managers"
“I’ve been here for seven years in total, and I’ve had four different leadership roles in the last five of them. It’s because I’ve had some hugely supportive managers who’ve helped me to develop and progress. There were times when I was uncertain about going for a particular position, but my managers always encouraged and helped me. It’s taken me a long way. I’m now about to move to a new position as Communications Business Partner for the company.”
"It felt like a big achievement"
“One of my favourite achievements here was when I was part of a group presentation to the board of directors. To convey our message, we asked them to get up and actually replenish a stock room. There was a little uncertainty at first, but soon they found it funny and we got a really positive response. It felt like a big achievement to use an innovative, unconventional method to successfully get a message across.”
