I’ve worked for Homebase for 12 years, since first working weekends at age 16, but I’ve only recently moved to my current role. After school I did a degree, going on to specialise in employment law. Law wasn’t for me though, and I decided to apply to Homebase – that’s where my career with them started in HR.

“After a number of different roles – including Deputy Manager of a store that topped the region by making over £1 million a year in profits – the opportunity to become an HR Business Partner came up. I now cover all stores in the central region of the UK as well as South Wales. For me, it’s the variety that I love most. I’ve worked in a lot of stores and it always amazes me how different the people are. Everyone has a different story to tell.”

“I think of myself as being on a personal development journey, with a view to taking on a broader HR role at some point. But I’m lucky to be where I am now. I have a new baby and, because my work’s field-based, it’s flexible enough to fit around my commitments. What’s more, my staff discount proved very useful while we were decorating our house!”
