PR Manager

The role

To manage proactive and reactive media and communication strategies and programmes to enhance and protect Homebase’s reputation. The PR Manager will oversee all consumer PR activity and support the Head of Corporate Affairs with issue management and corporate communications.

What will I be doing?

Consumer PR & Corporate Communications:

Understand the strategic direction of the business and advise and deliver positive communications programmes aligned to commercial plans
Maintain, protect and enhance the Homebase brand through an integrated communications approach that ensures greater brand reach
Successful development and execution of strategic communications activities, working alongside PR agencies and internal teams as required
Set and oversee KPIs
Coordinate and coach key internal and external business partners in the management of PR activities
Oversea Corporate Affairs budget, and maintain financial logs
Build relationships with key internal and external stakeholders
Continually think of new and innovative ways to work

Press Office & Media Relations:

Manage the day-to-day activities and supervise the Press Officer and PR agencies
Manage media enquiries ensuring key internal stakeholders are appropriately consulted
Liaise with journalists and editors to implement PR communication activities
Identify and maximise opportunities for third party endorsement (e.g. influencers)

Issues management:

Support and advise the executive team on media, business communications, issues and corporate matters
Effectively mitigate business issues and risk and communicate with internal and external stakeholders
Risk and crisis management, including providing advice and reporting to key stakeholders
Oversee monitoring processes and procedures, and timely communication with the business
Provide out of hours support

What I need to be successful:

Educated to degree level
Demonstrate extensive experience and understanding of the media and public relations process gained in a commercial, government or corporate consultancy environment
Experience leading, coaching and developing a small team, and agencies
Proven ability to work with cross-divisional or multi-functional teams
Strong practical and commercial understanding of PR and brand communications, including managing media and relationships
Experience developing and executing strategic communications plans
Knowledge of trends and the competitive landscape within the sector
Knowledge of social media channels and strategy development
Outstanding communication skills - interpersonal, written and presentation
Excellent writing skills - including media releases, strategic communications plan and supporting material
Ability to process complex information efficiently, summarise material concisely and provide recommendations and guidance to the senior leadership team
Strong stakeholder relations with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels
Strong commercial acumen
Well organised with strong planning and prioritisation skills - excellent project and time management ability
Experience supporting and advising the executive team on media and corporate matters.
