Merchandise Assistant

Over the past few years Homebase have seen some massive changes and also faced some challenging times but we’re proud to say things are very much on the up. So much so that our team is growing and we're now seeking an experienced assistant merchandiser to join us!

Moving into merchandising isn’t something most people would probably consider – it’s not a job title they tell you about at school. Which is a shame because it wouldn’t be a stretch to say everyone in this team absolutely loves what they do; this is genuinely a fantastic opportunity to be part of a team that directly influences the success of the business.

What can you expect from this role?

You know how frustrating it is when you walk into a store and they don’t have what you’re looking for or it’s out of stock? Well our Merchandisers and Merchandise Assistant are tasked with ensuring this DOESN’T happen to our customers.

You’ll be working closely with our merchandisers and liaising with suppliers to make sure our stock replenishment levels are right and also forecast when which items we will need and when so when our customers come to see us they can find what they need. You will also be working to keep costs as low as possible; the higher the cost our end the higher the cost of the item on the shelf or in the our showroom. Our customers need to know they can trust our quality as well as our price so this part is particularly important.

What attributes you need to be successful:

Be Good with People – you’ll spend a lot of time on the phone with suppliers organising what stock will be delivered to which store and when so it’s important you’re able to build a good relationship with them.

Be Organised – it’s the old cliché, but this skill is key. This is a busy role and there’s a lot to do each day so you need to be able to plan well ahead and keep yourself on track so you can get everything you need to get done, done.

Be Good at Puzzles – no day is ever the same and sometimes the issues you will encounter will be complex and hard to solve so you will need to think outside of the box and come up with new and creative solutions.

Be Trustworthy – while you will be working as part of a team there will be times when you will be given your own project to work on as well as day to day targets. This means we need to be able to trust you to work autonomously and ensure you hit your deadlines on time.

Be Willing to Learn – Our team have a combined experience of over 30 years and they’re willing to share every part of experience with you. The only thing you need to do is be willing to listen and learn and most importantly NEVER BE AFRAID TO ASK QUESTIONS.
